PARIS BLOG PART 3

Nov 05.12

I did three magazine interviews this morning, then did the 3 hour Michael Drucker show called “Vivement Dimanche” which is one of if not the most popular TV shows in France that airs Sunday afternoons throughout Europe since 1997. I did the show 7 years ago to promote my memoir. Vanessa, my grandkids and Tulea were all with me then on the show and I was astonished at how huge the audience was—I got so much feedback.… Click for more

IN PARIS PART 2

Nov 16.11

In the photo above I am with Pierre Richard from our film, “…Et Si On Vivait Tous Ensemble” (And If We All Lived Together). I spent yesterday in Paris doing interviews on behalf of the film which was made last year. What was so exciting was that the journalists all felt the film was really good. Many had seen it at festivals.… Click for more

LAST DAY

Jul 13.10

July 7th

Movie making is a strange profession. You become very close to a group of people..cast and crew members..and then it’s over and everyone goes their separate ways. I’ve learned that one has to be intentional if friendships formed on a movie set are to continue. Geraldine and I have pledged to remain friends. I find her fascinating with off-beat taste in all things.… Click for more

WE BUILT IT AND THEY CAME

Jul 05.10

I didn’t work today, luckily, because I got to bed very late. But I went out to the location later today to do some voice overs. When I got there, they were filming a scene around the pool with Geraldine’s grandchildren (Actually the director’s children playing the roles) and I couldn’t resist taking a picture. I have taken you through the whole process…first it was a vegetable garden, then they began to dig a hole for the pool, and so on.… Click for more

WE’RE BUILDING IT. WE’LL SEE IF THEY COME

Jun 18.10

We worked till 9pm last night, then I had a dinner at a friends house, then we worked American hours this morning!!! The one and only time for that and, had I know, I would never have accepted a dinner. Pickup at 7:30 am so I had to get up at 6am and there was lots of traffic and, after 4 hours sleep I was whacked.… Click for more

IF YOU BUILD A SWIMMING POOL WILL THE GRANDKIDS COME?

Jun 17.10

That’s the question Geraldine’s character poses to herself. She misses her grandkids since their parents moved a little bit away and thinks they don’t love her anymore.

So in this scene where we’re enjoying a barbacue in the garden, our friend, played by Claude Rich (in the cap) suggests putting a swimming pool in place of the vegetable garden. Geraldine’s husband is totally opposed.… Click for more

AN EASY DAY

Jun 15.10

I had one short scene leaving the house that my husband and I will eventually move into. The movie is, after all, called “…And If We All Lived Together.” Well, we do in the end and it’s lots of fun, but here we still have to go home after a fun birthday party to let the dog out.

I got to back to the apartment where I am taking advantage of this free afternoon and evening to work on my book.… Click for more

FIRST DAY WITH DANIEL BRUHL

Jun 04.10

We shot a charming scene today—Pierre, me and the dog—with Daniel Bruhl. I saw immediately what a wonderful and subtle actor he is. (He was the young Nazi in “Inglorious Bastards,” Tarantino’s film.)

He is 31 years old and has made more than 30 movies. He started as an adolescent. Pierre told me today that he has really loved every single scene he has filmed so far on this movie—which, he said, is unusual.… Click for more

The last scene for today, an intense one with Pierre Richard. We are running lines here.

He has the most open, light blue eyes I have ever had the pleasure of looking into.

SHOOTING FIRST SCENE WITH PIERRE RICHARD

Jun 01.10

Pierre Richard is one of the most famous and beloved actors in France, known particularly for his comedies. Today we shot our first scene together. He told me he didn’t sleep well last night because he was nervous. Isn’t that sweet? It was a bathroom scene with us brushing our teeth and I lie to him and tell him that my cancer is gone–cured!!… Click for more

FIRST DAY’S SHOOTING

Jun 01.10

It went well although Sunday I was locked out of my apartment (locked my key inside) for 3 and a half hours and it was really cold and rainy and I caught a cold so feel crumby. Still do. My scene had no dialogue but was a more intense than I expected moment between Guy Bedos (Geraldine’s Husband and a life-long friend of my character) and me.… Click for more

TANGO LESSONS AND MAKEUP TESTS IN PARIS

May 24.10

This morning a wonderful Italian couple, Jean Paul Padovani et Claudia Miazzo, came to my apartment to give me a tango lesson for a scene that will be shot soon with Claude Rich. It was challenging for me to get the tango movements right but the music was inspiring and the teachers generous, skillful and kind. Tomorrow I practice with Claude himself in the studio.… Click for more

MY SECOND DAY IN PARIS

May 23.10

Windows thrown open onto the river. Tulea sleeping peacefully on the Moroccan rug, the sunlight streaming in. There are lines around the block at 6 or 7 locations on the island where Berthillon ice cream is sold. I never realized how the French love their glaces! And for good reason…it is superb.

I worked for 3 hours today with the French dialogue coach.… Click for more

I’M IN PARIS, MAI OUI

May 22.10

I have arrived in Paris to begin work on a French film called “…Et Si On Vivait Tous Ensemble?” (“And If We All Lived Together?”) Geraldine Chaplin (Charlie’s daughter) is the other woman and the men are all iconic French actors, beloved here. Guy Bedos, Claude Rich, Pierre Richard. I love how the French are loyal to their stars even when they are no longer young.  … Click for more

MOVED IN

May 17.10

I haven’t been blogging because I’ve been so busy moving to an apartment in Los Angeles. I only have a few days before I leave for Paris to start the French film, “…Et Si On Vivait Tous Ensemble” (“..and if we all lived together”). And only a week after I get there before I begin shooting. Whew! I feel betwix’t and between….not really out of Atlanta, not really here…like I’m in a dream.… Click for more
