MAGICAL EVENING IN ATLANTA

I don’t usually describe a fundraiser as magical but Tuesday night’s was. A G-CAPP board member, Walter Jospin and his wife Wendy, opened their home last night for a gathering that did feel that special. Others told me they felt the same. I’d been away from Atlanta for so long–partly because of being on Broadway for 5 months, partly because of my knee surgery and then came falling in love (on the west coast), and, and..anyway I had forgotten how sweet it is to reconnect with old friends. Some had gone on the trip to the Gallapagos with me and my family (it was a fundraising trip for G-CAPP. Some, like Gail Evans, go back to the days when I lived in the CNN Center and saw her (a programmer for CNN) on a regular basis. My step-son, Rhett Turner was there with his Italian mother-in-law. Rhett is a very talented documentary filmmaker and photographer currently working on a doc for the Carter Center and another about the crisis of water. He always touches me deeply.

I will post this without all the photos we took and hope I get them soon. Here’s one of me at the podium.

Was it really necessary to point out that your stepson’s mother-in-law is Italian? Why not just say “mother-in-law”? Why point out her ethnicity? What is that about?

So glad your fundraiser was a magical evening! It was nice for you to have an opportunity to see old friends!:) You see people here in Atlanta have missed you too, since you’ve been gone so long!! It is a wonderful thing when we get a chance to be with people we care about!! It’s important not to lose touch with our friends!!

Alyssa, your comment was one that belongs to the category ‘if you can’t say something good, then don’t say anything at all’.

When writing, in order to give a piece texture you use adjectives like nice, big, small, kind etc. Italian is an adjective just like any other. What’s the problem with that? I would mention my German mother-in-law or American friends. What’s so wrong with that.

It was so good to read this and other blogs. I have just started blogging myself and found it very refreshing to read what you had to say, you write from the heart.

Because of you, i will probably blog about everything, which is a great thing i might add.

So glad I came across this blog today; Jane Fonda has always been one of my heroes. Would that I could be more like her one day!

Love the writing and especially the adjectives, such as “Italian mother-in-law” which added beautiful images of Italy to the piece and more interesting information to the people. Can’t wait to read more!
