People.com FIRST LOOK: Jane Fonda’s New Workout DVD Revealed

Baby Boomers, get ready to feel the burn again! Jane Fonda, 72, is springing back into her workout gear this fall to release two new DVDs designed for the generation that came of age feeling the burn from her first blockbuster workout tape, Jane Fonda’s Workout, debuted in 1982. “I’m very excited to be back in the fitness business,” Fonda told PEOPLE. “I know from experience and from my research how critical it is for boomers and seniors to be physically active. Even if they’ve never exercised in their lives, now’s the time and my programs are a good, safe way to do it.” The two titles, Jane Fonda: Prime Time Walkout and Jane Fonda: Prime Time Fit & Strong — both due out Nov. 30 — are not only for the senior set. Fonda says she also hopes to inspire “people who think that they are too far unfit to get fit again.” Tell us: Will you buy Jane Fonda’s new workout DVD?–Thailan Pham

  1. congratulations! Beautiful pictures! I’m not a senior yet but am overweight due to plantar and not so best knees so it will be good re start for me! Can’t wait!

  2. That’s great news … just in time to order for mom for Christmas (or her birthday in Jan – one month younger than you)! Thanks! Will we be able to purchase from your online store?

  3. Hello Jane,

Congrats on the new video. I have a funny story to share with you. I was in an intense Level 3 yoga class (Northern California — very serious yoga!), and our teacher had us on all fours with extended leg kicks. Now this very hip British guy, around 35 or so, says “he’s been doing these since Jane Fonda taught him in the 80’s.” We all had a good laugh. And I had a warmth in my heart. I was doing those kicks back then, too!

I wish you all the success in the world with everything. Nobody deserves it more than you.

    Love, Jessica

  4. Jane: So thrilled you have a new workout video. I HAD your 1982 version as a ‘young adult’ and it helped me understand how to loose weight by exercising.

You go Jane! A role model to us all.

  5. I will buy the new CDs!

  6. Fantastic. You look fabulous. Can’t wait to own both. You’ll always be my role model Jane.

  7. Looks pretty crazy to me. I prefer real DVDs as seen on http://www.filmcrave.com/dvd_new.php

  8. The picture doesn’t really look like you.

  9. i wanted to see a few of the moves.. it said “revealed”…thanks for all

  10. I can’t wait to get these workouts!

  11. I owned and followed the directions in your first exercise book. Then, several years ago, I saw a tv interview you did.

When asked if you were still exercising, you said that you ate right and had good genes but you were no longer following an exercise routine.

Are you now exercising on a regular basis or just for the new videos?

By the way, I’ve been a fan since seeing “Sunday in New York.”

  12. Yes, I will buy Jane’s new DVDs! I cannot walk, as I used to using her Walk Tapes, but I desperately need low impact DVDs to perform in my air-conditioned home under a ceiling fan! At 83, and residing in Florida, I don’t want to suffer a stroke trying to get back to being fit!

  13. I am hoping to see the crowd from the eighties back in the studio on Robertson, in BH, which now appears to be empty. It was a sad moment to see the sign go up over 20 years ago, upon which Jane wrote that it has been a lovely “dance with you all”,and that the studio would finally close.

My guess is that everyone would surely return should she re-open the workout. So much fun to workout everyday alongside Shirlee Fonda, Barry Bostwick, Stacy Nelkin, Leigh Taylor Young, Jacqueline Bisset, Jamie Lee Curtis, Debrah Farentino, Erin Gray, Madonna, Boy George, Ann Turkel, John Pleshette, Lesley Ann Warren, M’liss Fotre, Jeanne Ernst, Janis Paige, Allyce Beasley, Herb Feinstat, Diane Toyama, Laurel Sparks, Leslie lillien, Rachel Hunter, Peggy lipton, Kurt Russell, it goes on and on. So much fun with everyone dancing and following The Pointer Sisters loud music urging us to “Jump”, and moving in unison to the pounding beat of “Gloria”.

I , personally, am hoping that fabulous Jane at 72 will revive the spirit we all felt and bring back “the moment”, the momentum and the Jane Fonda’s Workout Studios in BH and Encino to continue the dance, for all of us who miss the place, those days, and her.

Thank you for the music , the fitness, and the wonderful fun. I still do the tapes at home. Have all the videos I bought 30+ years ago in perfect condition and enjoy them every day.

Look forward to the NEW ONES, who would have thought we would ever see more?!!

Hope you bring back that dance. Everyone had such a great time working out with you.

    God bless.

  14. I will definitely purchase these DVD Workouts. I am thrilled that you are back in the fitness “business”! Thank you for caring enough to help those of us who are in need of getting more exercise at this stage of our lives. Yes, I will be at the head of the line on November 30.
    Thanks again, Lynda

  15. Jane – sorry – I love you and your spirit BUT you look like Kate Gosselin on your new workout DVDs. Not a good thing.

    • Pity the new workout won’t come with an eye chart and a free CD of the Bates method.

  16. I am so excited to find your blog and learn that you are releasing two new DVDs. My mom purchased your original Workout and Workout Challenge videos, and still has them to this day (although for preservation they don’t get played often). I would occasionally do the tapes with her in the beginning (I was about 7 years old when the first was released), and then used them myself later in my teenage years. To this day they set the bar for all exercise videos I use. Which leads me here: I want your original Workout on DVD! I have always loved the exercises, and your instruction was impeccable. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there that would love to see this one re-released. It would also remind some of the trainers out there today what exercise videos *should* be like. In the meantime, I eagerly await your new DVDs, which I’ll be gifting to my mom and myself while we await the re-release of Workout 🙂

  17. Hi Jane! I am so excited you’re still putting out fitness DVDs. Congratulations on your latest. I however, would LOVE to find your classic workouts on DVD, even your original ‘Workout’. Do you have any plans in the future to release these again? I feel like there has to be many people who would love to have them on DVD:)

    Best wishes,

    Alisa

  18. I was channel surfing a few nights ago and caught a glimpse of Jane on what I think may have been Colbert Show? Anyway, I got a smidge of info about this new DVD and my heart soared! I am an original “ready to do the Workout” gal and used to hear often that I looked like Jane at my most fit (have pix to prove).

Anyway…sorry, I’m excited…I can’t wait to try the new DVDs. Do I really have to wait till November? I had brain surgery just 4 months ago and I need exercise NOW!! Just some simple, older-gal workout stuff and have tried everything at the library and online. I’m almost 60 and though I appreciate hip-hop and crump…come on, let’s get real. I’m happy I can still palm the floor…

Jane’s new DVDs sound like a perfect way to help get my coordination, tone and balance back. I’ve gained about 10 lbs since surgery and it’s effecting my diabetes…I think I’m (hold for it) ready to do the workout!!

  19. I second Misha’s comment. Any chance that some of the older ones will be coming out on dvd? I have the Complete and Personal Trainer dvds, but I miss the Favorite Fat Burners–that one was so fun!!

  20. Misha,

Jane has said that some of her workouts are being re-released on DVD. I’m not sure which ones, though – I am hoping her step workouts will be re-released on DVD. There are some of Jane’s workouts that have already been released on a compilation DVD.

  21. Misha,

The Jane Fonda Collection is comprised of 2 compilation DVDs. One is the “Complete Personal Trainer Series” and the other is the “Complete Workout and Stress Reduction”. Jane’s “Complete Workout” is one of my all-time favorites, so I am happy it’s available on DVD now.

  22. Jane,

You were the one that inspired me to start exercising in the early 80s when your first book was published. I made aerobics a habit and it makes me feel great. Looking forward to your new DVDs.

  23. Jane, as I read the posts, I find it so exciting that I started walking with your walking tapes (I still have a drawer full of them!), exercising with every one of your videos, and even the book that came with the 1st one!
At 83, and not as fit as I used to be, I look forward to being inspired once more by your instruction and leadership as soon as your new DVD appears!

  24. I am so excited to listen to the new walkout tape. I walk every morning to “Walkout Two”. I have graduated to an i-pod, much easier to carry, but the music is getting pretty predictable. I am 71, and healthy! But I look forward to the toning exercises on the new video. You have been my hero for so many years. Keep up the chin and the good work. P.S. I have a Coton du Tulear, male, who runs like Tulea. He is as spoiled as Tulea as well.

  25. Dear Jane, I totally so agree on having the re-release of the 80’s version videos. I worked out to them every night, 6 days a week, and the transformation in my body was so good! I loved the low impact workout released in 1987 with your blue shimmery leotard and you still look just as good.

  26. Please tell me this will be a world wide release!!!!

  27. Congrats! I will look for it and pick it up!

  28. FYI everyone,

I left Jane a message on the ‘Ask Jane’ page, and she indicated that she was working on the re-release of two of her original workouts, Jane Fonda’s Workout (aka Workout Starring Jane Fonda) – 1982 and Jane Fonda’s Workout Challenge – 1983, for sometime in early 2011.

    Yay!

  29. Hi Jane,

I’m 38 years old. Your Total Body Sculpting workout taught me to lift weights and gave me the courage to join a gym and lift weights. (Unfortunately, due to the economy, I’ve had to give up my gym membership.) I never felt as good as I did when I worked out.

    Thanks.
    Best,
    Jason E.

P.S. Please do more movies. 9 to 5 is my all-time favorite movie!

  30. idliketoknowwhereicangeturdvdinkenya..

    • Azrah, I do not know. Here, the DVDs will be old at Target for one month, or till year ‘s end, and starting in 2011, in Walmart

  31. My Fonda Fitness Story:
i was almost 3 weeks overdue with my 2nd-
a hot CA. OCT in 1984-
Yet one more ‘scan’ confirmed baby was fine, just taking her time arriving—
Out of sheer desperation, i turned on Jane’s pregnancy fitness tape that i stopped doing @ 9 months—
I almost did the entire routine-
    -felt good-
-my daughter arrived 18 hours later after a brief, FAB! labor-
“Now this s the way babies should be born” is what my doc said about her swift and uncomplicated birth–
That daughter of mine went on to become a D-1 soccer player for CAL/Berkeley-
-was it Jane’s influence in utero?
We’ll never now for sure but I’ll tell you this, working out to Fonda’s pregnancy fitness tape didn’t hurt…:)
    sign me,
    always fan of Jane’s

  32. Absolutely, I would buy her DVD. I’m glad she is getting back into the routine. And I agree that as long as you can move, you can get in shape. Positive benefits for mind and body. Go Jane!

  33. I loved your old videos as well as your book. Back then I was a teenager and wore a size 22 pants. Mom bought your book, after I started using the book and being more active I ended up a size 10. Loved your book.

We also bought your videos. Me, my sister, and my cousin used them all through the 80’s. We were in such good shape. Those videos were so good that every time we done them we were sore the next day. It was worth it.

I must admit I miss your videos. I have tried numerous others, but none compare.

I purchased your new videos, and have done them almost everyday. They are just as good as the original. I do wish you would re-release the original. I would definately purchase it.

    • Thank you, Melanie. I like getting feed back. I am trying to get the rights to my original videos back. It is not easy. I want to release them in DVD.

      • I hope you get them back, looking forward to doing them.

  34. Jane, you are my hero! Thank you so much for keeping me fit and healthy for over 20 years! I just celebrated my 50th birthday and I feel great thanks to your videos (I know them by heart!)
    You are the BEST!

  35. Hi Jane, I just purchased your FIT&STRONG CD and had my first workout today. I find it too light for me at this time in my life but I will keep it for the future. I have all your workout tapes from the 80’s and loved them. My little daughter use to love working out with me to them, she is now 30 and asked me for the originals a few months back so she could get back into exercising again. I have purchased many workout tapes from other celeberties and can’t stand them…they whine through the tape about something or another about the exercise or whatever! You on the other hand give advise or commen sense help and always encourge even with the burn!!!!!! Just wanted to let you know that I still love your stuff and its great for the average person to be able to finally let you know.
