QVC Cancelled My Appearance!!

Jul 16.11

I was to have been on QVC today to introduce my book, “Prime Time,” about aging and the life cycle. The network said they got a lot of calls yesterday criticizing me for my opposition to the Vietnam War and threatening to boycott the show if I was allowed to appear. I am, to say the least, deeply disappointed that QVC caved to this kind of insane pressure by some well funded and organized political extremist groups. And that they did it without talking to me first. I have never shied away from talking about this as I have nothing to hide. I could have pointed out that threats of boycotts are nothing new for me and have never prevented me from having best selling books and exercise DVDs, films, and a Broadway play. Most people don’t buy into the far right lies. Many people have reached out to express how excited they were about my going onto QVC and hearing about my book.

Bottom line, this has gone on far too long, this spreading of lies about me! None of it is true. NONE OF IT! I love my country. I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us. I do not understand what the far right stands to gain by continuing with these myths. In this case, they denied a lot of people the chance to hear about a book that can help make life better, easier and more fulfilling. I am deeply grateful for all of the support I have been getting since this happened, including from my Vietnam Veterans friends.

I want to be open minded about this. Are you saying that the report of your betrayal of American prisoners of war is all totally untrue??
I would like to hear your side of this story.

  2. Jane, I have one of ur excercise tapes from 1985 and lost my baby weight with it. I bought ur book “My Life So Far” on Amazon (loved it) and will buy this one on Amazon also!! Love you! Keep those books coming! :)

  3. Vicki says:

I am saddened and angered by this ridiculous cancelation of your appearance on QVC.

For 2 days this past week, thousands of people – mainly women – sat and stood on NYC streets and sidewalks in 90-degree heat to catch a glimpse of a performance by a “musical artist” (I use both words very loosely here) who severely beat his talented girlfriend. Just about everybody on that line had seen the photos that demonstrated his pugilistic talent. (Certainly, 1 television studio that he recently had trashed in anger, realized that his temper still could get the best of him.) A major network on a major morning program aired his live performance. The show boasted, via its Twitter account, that this appearance generated its biggest crowd ever. The “artist,” undoubtedly helped by this appearance, will sell millions of dollars worth of CDs and music downloads. Good for him. This is America, isn’t it? America, where even abusers of dogs and beaters of women get another chance.

This morning QVC, a network whose audience comprises mainly women, cancelled an appearance by Jane Fonda. Why? As far as I know, she never beat anyone, she never abused her cute dog or cat, she didn’t trash a TV or movie set or utter sexist or racist remarks or speak unkindly about anyone or try to harm anybody in anyway. What was she guilty of? She was guilty of acting like an American. Some 40 or so years ago, she voiced an opinion against a war that many believed back then, and even more so today, was unnecessary. History, with its hindsight, is on the side of her opinion. So, Jane Fonda said something 40 years ago and a few unenlightened malcontents called QVC to complain. Or, perhaps as Jane surmises, it was a right-wing organization who complained. No matter the culprits, did they call NBC or ABC? Perhaps a male celebrity who beat a woman is not as threatening as a woman who expressed an opinion – even when such opinion was expressed decades ago.

What exactly has Jane Fonda done? Although I don’t know her personally, by all accounts, she has been a caring mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She has devoted her life to charitable causes. She pours honesty and excellence and passion into everything she does – her books, her physical fitness DVDs, and her films. Her work has informed, entertained and inspired generations. It still does. Ask anyone who saw her in “33 Variations.” She works hard. She doesn’t give up. She is feisty. She has guts. She is elegant. She is smart. She speaks.

In April, I attended a Jane Fonda fundraiser for the Women’s Media Center in New York City. This organization’s mission is to give women visibility and to expose sexism in the media. How ironic that QVC, a network that caters to women, chose to silence Jane Fonda. This decision does not bode well for QVC.

Jane, your fans – and they are many – will boycott QVC. Posts on message boards already attest to this. Your new book will be a bestseller for Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. I will not buy your book from QVC. I look forward to hearing you SPEAK at the 92Y in August and buying your book when you appear at Barnes and Noble.

  4. I must say, I was stunned when I heard that you were going to be appearing on the televisual equivalient of a residential home for senile right-wingers.

I’m a shopaholic, Jane. I shop online daily. Four times a day. Collage Video, TheFIRM, Amazon (from where I bought ‘My Life So Far’ four times), Toys R Us, Barnes and Noble…

But QVC? QVC? No! We don’t DO QVC! It should be renamed OVK – Overpriced Vile Kitsch.

Jane, your book is going to be a worldwide bestseller without the constipated tweeness of THAT particular outlet, BELIEVE me.

You’re the best, and your followers across the globe are eagerly awaiting your latest fine work.

    Mwah!

  5. Chrsitine says:

OMG. I am so sorry to hear that people are still holding on to some Nixon Era BS about you. Sometimes I think there are people out there who just like to hate and it seems they must do their shopping at QVC. There are better places for you to promote your book. Take care and as a boss of mine said to me once of some mean co-workers “Nil desperandum carburundum illegitam (Don’t let the bastards grind you down). Which I am sure you will not, because you are a very strong individual, true to yourself. Something I have always admired about you.

  6. I suppose that I should not be totally shocked and amazed that this still happens. You have proven over and over again that you are proud to be an American. Your work to help improve people’s lives, including your work with charity, should speak for itself. I, too, have emailed QVC to express my extreme disappointment in the cancellation of your appearance. I was looking forward to it. I get very, very frustrated when the voices of a few ruin things for the majority. Wait……isn’t that how politics work? LOL

I will remain a fan, Jane.

  7. Tracy says:

I’m so sorry that happened Jane.

I’ve been a fan of yours since I did your WorkOut after high school in the 70′s when it was an album and a book.

The book there is autographed. Is qvc the only place to get an autographed version? Did you really sign it?

  8. Wanda Damron says:

Why don’t you come to Canada and sell it on the shopping channel?? Joan Rivers sells her cosmetics and jewelery here and many American company’s bring there wonderful products north of the border…And the Marilyn Denis show while you are in Toronto!!
    Please consider it!!

  9. sorry to hear that your appearance was canceled. there are still a lot of hateful people in this world who can’t let go of past failures for whatever reason. i feel sorry for them. i am a 55 year old air force veteran who served to protect your right to freedom of speach. i am sorry that others won’t allow you that right. i have sent an email to qvc protesting their decision. i have read and enjoyed your autobiography and wish you success on your new book. can i still order an autographed copy and are you going on any talk shows to promote it?

  10. I sent this email to QVC:
I am extremely disappointed that QVC caved in to small-minded, uninformed, bitter viewers who must not believe in freedom because their threats deprived me of freely ordering Jane Fonda’s book. QVC should be ashamed, should apologize to Jane and your viewers, and should reschedule Jane Fonda. Please reconsider.

  11. Sonia Ross says:

Hi Jane – I just wrote QVC protesting the fact that they cancelled your appearance. I didn’t know you were going to be on today but definitely would have watched had I known. Hopefully you will be booked somewhere else quickly where I will definitely tune in! I have always wanted to write you let you know that your autobiography changed my life and really helped me to put some of the pieces of my own life together. I look forward to your new book offering. You continue to be an inspiration!

    With love,

    Sonia

  12. Shocked (almost) beyond words that such bigoted ignorance continues to prevail in this country of govermental control! I have called QVC (Questionable Villainous Conspiracy corporation), to voice my tremendous disappointment in their unwarranted conclusion and bowing to ignorance!

I spend several hundred dollars at this site, being on disability, alone, without transportation, which I verified with their company, suggesting Barry Diller (QVC owner/diane von Furstenberg husband)receive a copy of my complaint!

Given the hypocrisy of the U.S. government/dark prisons/torture and benefit denials of our most vulnerable seniors & disabled into poverty with uncontrolled, unnecessary spending of tax payer funds, this is a harsh reality of just how UNinformed and radical our citizens remain…bowed to by biased corporations!

During the 70′s (unlike most of the nation) I researched our government, and its war involvement. I have been a supporter, fan, admirer, which has grown, of Jane Fonda over the years, having appreciated greatly applification of her experiences with facts in ‘My Life so Far.

Jane, you are a woman of substance and value, who has my strong esteem, respect, wonderment, regard, and appreciation! Sandra in San Juan Capistrano

  13. Diane Jarest says:

Look up Liberty Media (owners of QVC) and see what they own … eye opening to say the least.

  14. terry kerr says:

HSN has a female CEO, you should reach out to them. Best Wishes

  15. Having already expressed my stupefaction and shocked consternation at the ignorance of QVC, I have called the company, as well as written my contempt for their shallow commercialism.

I have also contacted HSN to suggest they present PRIME TIME, referencing Fonda successes and philantropic advancements.

With admiration, Sandra in San Juan Capistrano

  16. murphy says:

Yes I do agree that this has gone on long enough.
But to say you have done nothing to hurt this country or the men and women who fought and die
for this country is not true.

  17. Catherine says:

Jane,I just emailed this message to QVC.
“I keep trying to think of what I can say. I was looking forward to seeing and purchasing Jane Fonda’s book on QVC. I hope you get to feel the pull back from customers such as I, who will do my best to never order anything from QVC again..ever!
The group of small minded people who put pressure on you and the people, apparently, of the same ilk, at QVC should be ashamed of yourselves. Jane has apologized again and again for something that happened over forty years ago. We need to give such things a rest.
Here is my Q number XXXX-XXXX
I don’t think I could live with myself if I don’t make some small effort in this situation.”

    You’ve got a friend in me…

  18. Well Jane here are my thoughts on QVC.

    Hmmm, weird…

    I don’t seem to HAVE any …

Isn’t it a station and channel owned by Republicans.

Don’t you have to live, like, in Texas in order to get on QVC.

    Or Alabama?

I mean, yeah, it’s a golden opportunity to sell books.

But I think the channel/station is well beneath your dignity, Jane.

You’re Jane Fonda – who are THEY.

“We received a lot of calls about you – so you can’t come on.”

Jane it was one dude that called 11,000 times – he’s still got a-big-red-circle drawn through your poster of KLUTE.

It’s Grudge City – he thinks everything is your fault – I know the guy – his name is Jeb.

I put his picture up instead of my own – so that you can see the general mentality of this miscreant.

He lives in a shed just outside of a Civil War Memorial because Jeb thought the South really
    won – -

His phone is going to get disconnected because all 11,000 of those calls came from beyond his calling zone –

Thus it was worth it for Jeb to have even less contact with the outside world – than Jeb already has -

This, the QVC thing, is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to Jeb -

It’s his first taste of revenge –

He’s doing fist pumps just outside of his shed like he’s on JERSEY SHORE.

His thirteen malnourished dogs – they really do see a “Vet” – get it – “Vet?”

But seriously Jane – I’m all for some kind of book burning/protest outside of QVC’s offices -

Not the one in Arkansas, that’s too far for me to drive – plus it’s Carmageddon this week-end and I’d no doubt need the 405.

No, we don’t burn your book, Jane

But Jeb’s – he sold like nine thousand copies of “Jeb’s World” just last year on QVC.

He’s got a new Grits-cookbook coming out in October – and QVC’s all hopped-up about yet another Jeb appearance – imprisoned chicks love him.

Jane, all I’m saying is let the guy win something for once – you’re Jane Fonda – you win at everything –

    Rex

  19. Paul Chappel says:

I’m more shocked than I can say, Ms Fonda, and we don’t even get QVC in Canada for heaven’s sake. What about the gifts of hope and love you’ve given so many people throughout your career, never mind the side-splitting laughter and deeply felt tears (my late mother sobbed at Golden Pond every chance she had).

This is appalling! It’s hard to imagine any network cancelling a star of your stature over anything at all, never mind something that never happened based on a war that was more-or-less over before anyone under 40 can remember! (sorry, that might be tactless, but there it is.)

Well bless your heart for keeping on going and hopefully Amazon will run out of your book and QVC can wallow in lost income, and that might make it think twice before it believes such crap again.

  20. Tim says:

Would you believe that after all these years they still want to brand you with such nonsense. I want to thank you for all you have done for this country, many things the general public would never know or hear about I am sure. I am actually outraged that a network that my Mother watches “another free thinking woman” would miss the mark on there target demographic. I can almost hear my phone ringing and my Mom saying: “guess who is on QVC?” and we would have watched together cause we have been fans for decades. Please take care and dismiss this stupid action.

  21. steve says:

Wow, just as I was going to say I love the new web-site all of a sudden it’s the Twilight Zone.

    What century are we in??

So sorry Jane! It just goes to show that ignorance and hate are forever alive and well and certain people will do anything to prevent you or I or the good people of this country from moving forward by hanging onto things that no longer exist – except in their minds.

You have always perservered – you will now!

  22. Don’t let the right-wing liars bring you down, Jane. That they continue to attack you shows they have nothing new to offer the world. QVC lost more by caving into these wing nuts than they would have by having you on. And I loved your appearance on The Colbert Report (even if Mrs. Colbert didn’t. :) )

BTW, you came to my college to speak. I attended SUNY New Paltz and you, Tom, and John Hall came to speak to those of us who were to be Peacekeepers at the No Nukes Rally in Battery Park. I am proud to have shared a moment of activism with you, and I will always be one of your supporters.

  23. My first reaction was that we should boycott QVC but then I noticed Troy Garity’s tweet on twitter mentioning Love > Hate. Maybe QVC will have a change of heart if more people tell them they would like to see you on QVC. I sent QVC a tweet asking them to have you on the show.

  24. El Guero says:

Jane, I did not agree with what you did back then, am unsure how I feel about it after all these years, but I am absolutely certain that QVC’s cancellation was shamefully gutless. Those who disagree with you can choose not to buy your books. I disagree with QVC’s cancellation of your appearance so I will never buy from them again. I will be be buying your book elsewhere.

  25. trish ladwig says:

unbelievable the depths people will go to. keep spreading your message of light.
as for QVC, i was planning on watching today and ordering your book. i’ve never purchased from them and definitively never will based on the inability to rise up. pre-ordering the book from here as soon as i post this!

  26. Hi Jane,
I just read the story on Yahoo news and I am outraged, especially by the comments on the article. I cannot believe that this is the country that I love. There is so much hatred coming from certain people. I am too young to remember the events in question, and frankly I don’t care. I know that you are human just like everybody else, and nobody deserves to be treated like this. I for one stand behind you. I have always been a fan, and even at 73, you are just as lovely as you ever were, if not more so. I dare say that this says more about the clientele of QVC than it does about you.

  27. Karen Carter says:

Forgeddaboudit…. I don’t buy from QVC anyway. Very interested in the book tho. Hang in there, no skin off that Prime Time nose, right?

  28. Jane,
I think it is so nice for so many to support and comfort you at this time. However, that is exactly what the troops and families that were dying daily fighting in a war needed. Your heart may have been in the right place but you really went about it full force in the wrong way. The fact that so many are still angry should tell you how deeply you hurt them. I know you have apologized but this was something that cut deeply into the hearts of many servicemen and their families. I stand by your right to say what you did but you have to realize that there consequences for those words and actions. Stand tall for your beliefs and move on to the next project.

    • Daryl Godsey says:

Did you once live in Russia? If not, why so unforgiving? I live in Alabama not by choice, and some individuals seem to share you mentality as well-but not all. We are in a war now that is killing so many of our young men and women and for what.

You must be involved with the military or have a family member that has been involved in war, for you seem to be an angry individual. Don’t look back! Look forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Jane has done so much, what else do you want for goodness sakes!

I think Jane has picked up her stones and moved on, have you? Sounds like you haven’t, or else you be a forgiving person. Think about that when you warm that bench at church today!!!!

Bless you child for you are blind and cannot see!
May the fog lift from you eyes and set you free!

  29. Amy says:

    What are their lies?

    • Jane says:

I think the people that called QVC and threatened to boycott which is what caused the cancelation (which QVC told Random House was why they were cancelling although now they say it was due to scheduling.) said I was a traitor. i don’t know what else they said but I think it is because of the ongoing stream of lies about what they think I did in Vietnam—caused harm to POWs etc. This as been circulating since 1999 and is totally false.

  30. Hope Stern says:

I am saddened. I was looking forward to your appearance but will look for your book. I have your new work out DVD’s and love them.
I am a product of the 60′s and believe we are a stronger nation for those that make the government and in fact all of us THINK and not simply follow…

It was a cowardly decision Jane…..cannot wait to see the book

    Hope

  31. Deborah says:

How ridiculous of QVC. I guess book burning is just around the corner. Our generation of baby boomers are coming of age. How wonderful to have a book that celebrates life. I have been a Hospice nurse for 20 years and if I know one thing it’s to rejoice in the life we have and continue to take care of ourselves in that life. I will be saving lots of money now that I will no longer buy from QVC.

  32. I just called QVC and said I hope they have you on the show, that a few people may have called threatening to boycott, but most of us are interested in your new book and want to see you on the show.

  33. Debra Baker says:

Jane: I have been a good QVC customer (and a huge fan of yours since the “Tall Story” days) but I am rethinking the QVC relationship. Not only was it wrong, it was rude. My letter to its president goes out on Monday. If the country can forgive Nixon and McNamara, it should be forgiving you as well. Your work with young women in recent years is second to none, and your programs should be a template for others across the country. You go, Jane, and “feel the burn!”

  34. adrian says:

I am absolutely appalled at QVC. I suspect they thought you would just go away and not comment. They really don’t know you at all-do they? It is never a good feeling to be rejected, whether privately or publicly, but please don’t let them get you down. Keep moving forward. We who value your insights will always find you!

I was fortunate to have seen you twice this year. At the Taper in LA, in 33 Variations, which touched me more than I can say, and
at the Paley in BH. If QVC had had the opportunity to see you that night, speaking as an honest, vibrant, intelligent, motivated woman, (perhaps that is what scared them) they would not have canceled your appearance. It was such a special evening as you spoke about your life, lessons learned, and what keeps you moving forward. Truly an inspiration to all! The loss is the QVC audience, as they would have learned so much. I for one can’t wait for your book, because having listened to you read an excerpt, I just wish I did not have to wait until August!

    • Jane says:

What a nice message, Adria. Thank you. I had fun that night at the Paley with Pat Mitchell…such a good interviewer!! Shocked to see those old clips of me—selling Lux Soap no less.

  35. joan says:

Some people are just stuck in the past. QVC’s loss. I’ll buy your book somewhere else.

    I’ll never use QVC again.

  36. Geordie says:

We are down visiting Santa Barbara from Canada and was wanting to order the book for my wife. I sure hope fans send a loud message to QVC that its time to look at all the positive things you have done thru out your career. My money will not be going in their direction until someone takes a higher road and apologizes for this totally asinine decision. All the power to you Jane.

  37. Yvonne says:

    Hi Jane:

Although I have always been a fan of your work out videos since college, I hadn’t read any of your works before. Well, coincidentally I picked up and quickly finished reading “Life So Far” about two weeks ago. Until reading the news today, I wasn’t aware that you had another book in the works. So, in a way, QVC’s cowardly move to cancel your appearance may actually bring more media attention to the new book. I know that I will certainly be looking to order it on Amazon or elsewhere. You are a one of a kind woman— a true rarity. Your spiritual and physical beauty shine through. It is to QVC’s disadvantage that they won’t reap the benefits of having you on. I’m sure that they have lost many potential customers like myself as a result of their decision.

  38. Dear Jane! I think there was something wrong with my comment yesterday and I might have messed something up. If you have to read this again, then sorry but I’d write this down 10, 20, 30 times.

I just want to offer you all the love and support because you’re the greatest. You are because you’re willing to do something great for people, you’re willing to listen to the opinions and questions of your fans (even when they are as crazy as me :D ) and you already gave so much to the world. Those who are yelling those lies about you simply don’t realize this and it’s their loss, not yours. I think more people should see Coming Home.

There are more people on your side supporting you than on the other side against you and the love of your fans will conquer the possible backlash that you might gave and the love is what really counts.

    All the best

  39. Jill says:

You stood up for your beliefs Jane- you are a passionate person- who has done a lot of soul searching and reaching out.

You are a strong woman- stay strong- and those who truly know you know your motivations were and are sincere.

All power to you- and if you could let us know when we can get your book in Australia I would be very grateful as I train in the Aged Care sector and can’t wait to read it.

  40. Michael says:

I never view QVC but actual did plain to yesterday morning, did buy from them twice online. I’ve been a fan of yours ever since I was a child, so was excited to see you. When I saw your Tweet & read this blog about their decission to cancel your apperence on their shopping network It truly shocked me, that QVC would be so unprofessional, so disrespectful and cruel! It is disgusting! I in return will boycott them as I also Tweeted to them direct and plain on writing a note. I will never buy another product from them again! I am so sorry that you have to continue to deal with thease nutty extremists, & QVC’s actions even more appalling to be treathend by them. Ive read all of those horrible rumors made about you, they are sickening, so many of the media news organizations today thrive on similar sensationalism to brainwash, and manipulate their viewers to their beliefs as its truth and fact for some attention and $$. I read between the lines or should I say lies. I support you Jane as a human being who became a victim from an event that was twisted into making you into a monster. I know they’re full of it! I wish you well and hopefully some peace with the “Hanio Jane” lable. With love fron a very long time fan of your excellent work as film and stage actor, Mike
P.S. I can not wait for your next film. Thank you for all these years of entertainment.

  41. Phala says:

Dear Jane, I was very sorry to read about the QVC cancellation. I heard you speak in West Palm Beach when you were touring for your last book and I remember there were a few protestors. I thought of this then and think this today, enough is enough. How many times must be a person be reminded of something they did decades ago and in some cases the facts being replayed are just inaccurate. I remember getting into a debate with someone about it and they had heard a partially false story. I actually went on the internet and was able to defend my case that what they were told was not completely accurate. Now, I’m not saying that everything was false and I can see why this touches people deeply. You are such a talented person and an inspiration – I do believe that there is a lesson to be learned some where here so perhaps it’s that I should do my home shopping some where else and not focus on that network. I will purchase your book from another source. Yes, let’s move on.

  42. Unbelievable, I have just asked QVC to close my account, as I have decided due to actions of theirs in the past? I no longer require their services.

    Good luck Jane!

    • Jane says:

Thank you, Alvin. They just issued a false statement saying the cancellation was due to “scheduling conflicts” when they told Random House Friday (while I was flying to Philly for my appearance) that it was because of protests from angry people threatening boycott.

  43. Jane i hope you will let me post this link, on the grounds of impartiality and so some people can get some clarity on the situation back then. x

  44. Roy L Taylor says:

Ms.Fonda I have been a fan of yours since I was 9 years old & saw you in 9to5, & a year later in On Golden Pond. I turned 40 this year & I am still a Jane Fonda fan !The world needs more “Jane Fonda’s” in it in my opinion. You have given a voice to people who otherwise would have no voice at all.

  45. Diane Jarest says:

    Jane:
I am going to buy your book as a birthday present to myself when it comes out. I have always been a big fan and have a great deal of respect and admiration. You speak your truth. You’re not afraid or unwilling to admit that sometimes you make mistakes. We all make mistakes and/or bad choices. It’s what life is all about. QVC in this case made a bad choice/mistake in not letting you appear and caving into the right wing. I am sure your book sales will do well and you will continue to speak/write the truth.

  46. Jane – I love your new Web site – very nice! I loved your old blog too, but agree that it was time to go to a more expansive platform.

Okay, regarding QVC – lots of thoughts on those s.o.b.s….it’s too easy to make an exhaustive list of what’s wrong with QVC and God knows I could create an entire book filled with choice descriptive words. The challenge is to simply let this go and realize that QVC is quite limited and YOU are so much better than stooping to their level of pettiness and lies. Screw them! You don’t need QVC to sell your book – just keep doing what your doing and let your light shine on all the good that you do. My little advice is to not spend one precious moment of your life on this QVC bullsh-t and move on…I think home shopping anything/QVC, etc. has further enabled people to stay home, remain sedentary and to purchase large sized clothing rather than to do physical activity, spiritual practice, etc.

Be well, breathe in, breathe out, move on.

    XXX, Dan G.

P.S. I pre-bought your book on Amazon a while back for me and four other copies for smart women in my life (my mom, two sisters and aunt). I met you at Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky’s Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch a few years back and you graciously autographed four copies of “My Life So Far.”

  47. eric blair says:

Jane, reality check. Banned from QVC beats what happened to most of the people who committed similar acts like you out of principle against their government.

If memory serves me correct Tokyo Rose and Axis Sally had a hard time getting a gig anywhere never mind getting their name above the title like yourself. So half the country detests you while the other half detests Palin. Your bank account has probably never dropped below a trillion dollars, you own I would guess a few houses with nice gardens and can catch a Lear Jet anytime you want. You won the battle long ago J and just find it hard being out of the spotlight. You should thank QVC. They made you relevant and got you center stage for a few hours and the right to act the injured party. But like Holocaust survivors “Never forget” remains deep within the psyche of families and friends of those who were sacrificed by way of a foe you gave considerable support to.

As Malcolm X would say “the chickens have come home to roost” Jane but it remains a small blip in what remains a Queen of Sheba existence.

  48. Dear Jane,

As a veteran, I’ve come to understand some things about the Right. Most of those who are ultra-nationalist, have never served. They love to speak of American exceptionalism, to celebrate our military might, to wage war – so long as it is not they or their family who will wear that uniform and be at risk.

These people don’t mind that there are civilian casualties in any war – it’s just part of the price we pay. The same people don’t really seem to mind that innocent people are put to death with capital punishment – it’s all the price of keeping us safe. Many of these are those who are pro-life – from conception to birth.

I applaud your stance, and think it shameful that for political purposes, you are still being shunned for your legitimate stance on what is right and what is wrong. Here, where the struggle has been to build a country that was ruled – at least largely – by consensus, but which honored all opinions, to be muffled by an imposed orthodoxy is antithetical to the goals of our founding fathers. Sadly, that seems to be the goal of conservatism.

What I’ve noticed though is this: The more the insane right pounds their fists and stomps their feet, the more ridiculous they appear. I think that the Right have done more to promote things like same-sex marriage and civil rights for the LGBT community, gays in the military and other liberal causes than any of us ever could. They open their mouths and speak, and their insanity is instantly heard. It still takes some time to turn that ship, but they are helping despite themselves.

Keep standing for what is right – we know who is motivated by love and who isn’t.

    Jane -

I am saddened to hear you were hurt by the QVC cancellation. It is too bad that they resorted to covering up their real reasons for cancelling your appearance when the truth is obvious and they are not fooling anyone. Having said this, I do believe you want to move on but the unfortunate thing is that what you did, whether on purpose or by accident, deeply offended and hurt many people. Many people in my age group remember the hurt. Although I do not support QVC’s cancellation, I also do understand why the outcry is present. It would be much better, I believe, if instead of constantly defending yourself when things like this happen, it would serve you better to always acknowledge you were wrong and apologize each and every time. I think that if you did that, rather than take the defensive attitude, this would possibly eventually go away. People, for the most part, are forgiving when a heartfelt regret is expressed. Perhaps you might want to look at a different way to react. I do not hold anything against you, btw. And I would probably be considered part of the right you refer to. Lumping all of us together is not advantageous either. Just trying to help here….thanks.

Pam, I did something that was a terrible lapse of judgement and I have been apologizing for it for the last 35-40 years…sitting on that gun site. I will go to my grave regretting that.

I have been using QVC since its creation- but I will gladly BOYCOTT is.. as bad as things were in the 60′s at least we still had freedom of speech. Its gone now and our children are brainwashed at an early age to go along with the crowd.
The justice system is corroded and people no longer think for themselves.
I really think the country is going to implode-

I didn’t agree with everything you did or do- but I certainly defend your right to do and say what you please.

Read about the Kids for Cash scandal- and Sandy Fonza who’s son committed suicide because of it..I’m losing my home because of judicial corruption.

We need to go back to the sixties where you had a right to freedom and justice!
