    • Paul, I looked into what you said about Ontario:
      Coal is still a problem, but Germany has absolutely not abandoned its energy transition. Green energy’s share of the electricity mix is the single biggest and continues to increase, while coal’s share is on the decline.
      The latest estimate from the Ontario government is that its green energy policies have created a total of 42,000 jobs so far. Many are not permanent, but they haven’t all disappeared. Other estimates are higher: the Association of Power Producers of Ontario says that between 2008 and 2014, new wind and solar generation in Ontario created over 180,000 direct and indirect jobs in Canada (but mostly in Ontario).
      There are many causes of Ontario’s high power bills, and the growth of renewable energy has played only a very small role. In 2014, wind, solar, and biomass accounted for only 9% of an average residential bill, while nuclear alone accounted for 27%. Don’t take what the oil companies say at face value.
