I am studying film at uni and am also currently reading ‘My Life so Far’. I knew it would be an excellent book about an incredible woman, but what I wasn’t expecting was how much I would relate to the feelings of uselessness and depression she was going through at my age. I was sitting reading those passages thinking: this is exactly how I feel right now. On the outside, always looking in. The fact that a remarkable woman like Jane felt those exact things at my age is actually quite comforting. It gives me hope that it will get better and that I’m not alone. At some point we’re all on the outside; we just don’t realise we’re all there together.
