I have been working out with the Firm & burn dvd for 6 weeks now and feel great. I am 50, and last year had a pulmonary embolism after a severe dehydration from salmolella that I caught in Belgium. For the rest of my life I will have to take lots of pills and take better care of myself, but thanks to my great Hematologist and the support of my husband (who is a surgeon) , my 2 children and many dear friends I can honestly say I feel better than ever, and very exited to be able to work out again, with the same “trainer” I had when I was young: Jane Fonda.

Hi Geoff, of the pre-Complete Workout videos, only the original, the Pregnancy, Birth and Recovery Workout, and Start Up were barefoot for the entirety. The other tapes all started with shoes then removed them for the floor work, as it allowed more mobility for the feet during those exercises. I think after the PBR tape, it was deemed more important to wear footwear, especially during cardio. One of my VHS copies of the original Workout is actually a version that came out before it was removed from circulation – the Karl Lorimar intro is dated 1985 at the start. The same Workout, but several movements either removed (no “swing through” in the warm-up” and the last two leg split stretches at the end of the buttocks through the high shoulder stand are removed completely, to name 2 examples) or dubbed over (like ”press” dubbed over ”bounce”). There is an over-voicing added to both aerobic sections saying ”you should have your aerobic shoes on now to give more cushioning and support to your feet.” No one I’ve discussed her tapes with has seen this version and the DVD retained the original version of the Workout.
Thanks!! I’ve always enjoyed working out barefoot. I do put shoes on for step work, but do all of my mat work barefoot. How long have you been doing Jane’s workouts??
Since the late 80s when I was just a child. My mother received a copy of the original in the mid-80s and found it too difficult, and as the story goes, when she was thinking about returning/exchanging it, found me doing it. Always had (and still have) a preference for the earlier videos. The routines were more vigorous and were ones Jane mainly led solo or for the majority – the later videos were great but with Jane only leading a portion, the ones after the Lean Routine weren’t my favorites. How about you?
I was also, about the same. My Mom got a few of her tapes and Kathy Smith in the early / mid 80’s and I did them with her. She kind of lost interest in doing them and did other fitness activities. I did Jane and Kathy on and off in the 90’s, but got going about 16 years ago. I’m also like you in that I LOVE her older videos!! Her Mat/lower body work is GREAT!! I Agree with you about her Lean Routine videos I only do the parts with Jane leading it. I Also, Love her Workout with Weights video. What is your favorite Jane video?
